Sculacia® supplies an all natural, patented, proprietary blend of two classes of specific compounds; free-B-ring flavanoids and flavins. Sculacia® has been demonstrated to inhibit both COX-2 and 5-LO enzymatic activity, thereby decreasing the metabolism of arachidonic acid (AA) to prostaglandins, thromboxanes, and leukotrienes. Additionally, Sculacia® specifically decreases peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ), a key gene expression regulator, which results in the downregulation of gene expression for COX-2, 5-LO,TNFα, IL-1β, IL-6, but not COX-1.
In a randomized, double-blind, controlled study, using the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteo-Arthritis Index (WOMAC), a protocol reviewed and approved by an IRB board from the University of Montreal, significant improvement was documented for discomfort, stiffness and function as compared to placebo.
